Newspapers focus on communities

In 1966, Cape Publications began publishing the daily TODAY newspaper, serving the needs of Brevard County residents. The newspaper officially changed its name to FLORIDA TODAY in 1985, and continues to provide in-depth coverage of local news in print and online.

For breaking news, neighborhood news, coverage of the space industry, weather, sports, business, entertainment and a wealth of videos, contests, multimedia and other digital content, readers may visit www.floridatoday.com. The award-winning Web site also offers an Internet marketplace with products including real estate, automotive, employment and classified ads.

In addition to the daily newspaper, several specialty sections are distributed, including Real Estate on Saturday and Sunday, and TGIF, a weekend entertainment guide.

Cape Publications also produces weekly newspapers featuring neighborhood news. Each has its own hyper-local Web site.

In 2007, FLORIDA TODAY launched new media outlets, including www.brevardcountymoms.com, a Web site connecting Space Coast moms through forum chats, photo and video galleries and a daily calendar.

It also acquired the Central Florida Future, University of Central Florida's student newspaper, which publishes three times per week with news affecting student and campus life.

Publisher Mark Mikolajczyk joined FLORIDA TODAY in 2006.

FLORIDA TODAY offers programs designed to reach out to the Space Coast community, including co-sponsorships, Gannett Foundation grants, Reaching Out Holiday Fund and Volunteer Recognition Awards. For more information on any of these programs, call 321-242-3897.

Business hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. The mailing address is P.O. Box 419000, Melbourne, FL 32941-9000. Call 321-242-3500 for general inquiries.
